The 4th Dii Desert Energy Conference will be held in Rabat, Morocco

-A A +A
October 30-31, 2013

The 4th Dii Desert Energy Conference will be held in Rabat, Morocco this year. The development of renewable energy from the deserts lies first and foremost in the hands of the countries in North Africa and the Middle East. Enormous progress has been made all over the region. Ambitious wind and solar plans have been approved, different kinds of power plants have gone online and others are in the planning stage. Despite this, a lot needs to be done to create an interconnected power grid and an open market within Europe, North Africa and the Middle East that would provide access to secure, affordable and clean energy for more than 1.2 billion people in 2050. This promising outlook also holds a lot of positive socio-economic effects. In its latest reports Dii delivers an implementation strategy that outlines in detail the way to employ the benefits of renewable energies in an interconnected system linking countries and continents.

High-level international representatives from political as well as scientific communities, civil society and industry will meet at the 4th Dii Desert Energy Conference to identify common actions needed to reach a self-contained market in which renewable energies improve the total energy mix. The conference will focus on reference projects, international cooperation and integration as well as the economic impacts of desert power. In this context Dii will also provide a platform for civil society representatives to express their views.

Once again Dii will organize the Desertec Best Paper Award, together with the Desertec University Network which will reward excellent academic work in the field renewable of energy. The Journalist Fellowship will recognize outstanding journalistic work on the topic.

Dii’s role is to stimulate dialogue that shapes the future energy supply in Europe, North Africa and the Middle East. We would like to invite you to Rabat to be part of this dialogue.

The program of the conference and registration form will be available soon on the conference website:
